5.6 Special Ground Rules for Shamrock Park. a.) Any batter hitting a ball that lands on the fly anywhere on or inside the border of the playground or the shelter immediate adjacent to it, is out without exception. Ball is immediately ruled "dead ball out". Runners may NOT advance. b.) Any batter hitting a ball that rolls or bounces into the playground or the shelter immediate adjacent to it, is granted a ground rule double provided the ball hits no persons within the confines of the playground border or the shelter. c.) If a rolling/bouncing ball does strike a person (other than the fielder), ball is ruled dead ball out and runners may not advance.
It came up, so I'll clarify. This rule does NOT apply too the sidewalk leading up to the playground!
It involves the playground as delineated by the railroad ties and it also includes the picnic shelter as delineated by the concrete patio underneath it and the roof overhead.
Ball landing on a fly within the boundary of either is dead ball out, no runners advance. EVEN if no persons are present within this area!
Ball rolling/ bouncing into this area is a ground rule double UNLESS it strikes someone. Then, it is deadball out, no runners advance.
