THANKS!
Thanks to the many prayers and e-mails sent to us for Laurie. She is expected to be released from UIC on Tuesday or Wednesday.
FATHERS DAY MAKEUP GAMES:
These games are still scheduled, please check with your fellow manager if they are planning to play tomorrow evening. Be prepared to play in the grass if the infields have not dried out by tomorrow evening.
COBWEBS:
After a month off, it was good to play ball last Monday. And, after a month off there are apparently cob webs to DUST off!
I observed the following last Monday evening;
1.) An entire game was played with the pitching rubber at 44.5 feet at Shamrock. Those are the pitching rubbers in the ground at Sharmrock. That is OBVIOUSLY 5 1/2 ft short of regulation distance 50 ft. Please MEASURE with a tape measure at EVERY field.
2.) A team was WRONGLY told they could not insert a player in defense who arrived late. You can insert a player defensively at ANY point during the game.
3.) A manager called to say the Township was short a strike mat. I told them to use their own. It was back at home in the garage. Two games were played with a strike mat 'drawn in the dirt'. That is unacceptable! PLEASE have your strike mat in your car at all times! The Township was called and made aware of this missing mat. Hopefully it will show up by Monday.
4.) A manager could not recall the slaughter rule (13 at end of 4) and came up and asked me. I told them it is in the rules they should have a copy of on hand. The managers copy was back at home. (There is also a copy of the rules on the bulletin board of Township Field 1 back stop most games.)
5.) A manager came WITHOUT the dig out tool for the base receptacles AND it was needed. Thankfully the other manager had one.
6.) A manager did not have an umpires vest. Thankfully a spare was found.
7.) A manager incorrectly believed that the umpire cannot approach their own team mates to check up on a rule. (We have nothing in the rules wording that prevents this, nor should we.)
STANDINGS:
Standings have been updated!
Have a great weekend and hope to see many of your Monday evening, Lord willin'!
In Christ,
Doug Peterson
