Shamrock Ground Rules Proposed Change

There was mass confusion about the Shamrock ground rules for the entire 2009 season.
The proposed change below would be an attempt to revise and clarify the existing rule to eliminate the confusion.

OLD
5.6 Special Ground Rules for Shamrock Park. a.) Any batter hitting a ball that lands on the fly anywhere on or inside the border of the playground or the shelter immediate adjacent to it, or the sidewalk leading from the parking lot to this area, is out without exception. Ball is immediately ruled "dead ball out". Runners may NOT advance. b.) Any batter hitting a ball that rolls or bounces into the playground or the shelter immediate adjacent to it, is granted a ground rule double provided the ball hits no persons within the confines of the playground border or the shelter. c.) If a rolling/bouncing ball does strike a person (other than the fielder), ball is ruled dead ball out and runners may not advance.

This rule also applies to the sidewalk from the parking lot to the above mentioned area with one exception, ball hit on the fly OVER the sidewalk is in play.

PROPOSED
5.6 Special Ground Rules for Shamrock Park.
5.6.1 Applies ONLY when person(s) are present in the shelter or within the boundaries of the playground and a ball lands or bounces into this area:

a.) DEAD BALL OUT; A ball that lands on the fly (including the shelter roof). Runners may not advance. A ball that rolls or bounces in and strikes a person

b.) GROUND RULE DOUBLE; A ball that rolls or bounces in but does not strike a person. Runners advance 2 bases.

c.) LIVE BALL; A ball hit over or past or any ball that rolls past this area on either side of it, provided it has not crossed within the boundaries.

d.) If no person(s) are present in this area, the ball is live no matter what.

e.) None of the above applies to the sidewalk. (See below.)

5.6.2 Applies ONLY when person(s) are present on the sidewalk between the parking lot and playground:

a.) Ball is live if it does not strike a person.
b.) Ball is dead ball out if it strikes a person.
