April 25th start now in doubt,...

A very-very-very bad wet weather pattern looks to have set in for the week. Just got this from Frank De Vita, McHenry Township Operations Manager this morning.

Conditions are awful and not expect to improve this week.

His note speaks for itself.

##############

Good morning,

Please be advised all baseball fields are closed due to very poor conditions until further notice. The continuing wet weather is making it impossible for the Park Staff to perform any and all maintenance required to make the fields playable.

During field inspection this morning - I noticed someone attempted to drain standing water from field 3 by digging a trench by the third base line. Trenching does not work, damages the field, and only adds to the expense and time in restoring the field. It seems every year we experience several of these attempts. Evaporation, and percolation are needed in order for the fields to dry. Unfortunately, with the rains (snow) continuing, saturated ground, and lack of warm weather and sunshine, fields will remain un-playable for some time to come. Your full cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I will keep everyone posted as to field conditions. However, at this time I am not optimistic for the remainder of this week, or the week end.
