To play or not to play on Monday April 25th.

Right now the prospects of playing on Monday are a little bit brighter. Fields were checked last night and while they still had puddles, the outfields were dry.

Last year, we had zero rain outs. In 2009 we had 4. One thing I noted in 2009 was the level of visible water that was in the Field 1 left field corner by the foul pole. While at least for now no such pool of water exists there. This means the ground is NOT super saturated as was the case that Spring.

Only the Good Lord knows for sure what is in store for Monday, but the latest weather prognostications are calling for showers tomorrow (ie; NOT heavy rain). weather.com and accuweather.com do NOT agree on what happens on Sunday and Monday.

Thus, the possibility the fields will dry enough to play on April 25th, at least in my judgement, are now a little better than they were a few days ago when Frank sent his e-mail to the league.

At the very least, if possible, I will request the Township focus on Fields 1 and 2 and if still too wet, skip Fields 3 and 4 at the back of the park. In this scenario, those two games would move over into the grass somewhere. Not the most ideal, but better than not playing at all. :-)

Time will tell. In the mean time, have a Blessed Easter Sunday celebrating the Risen Christ, but first, reflect on the price that was paid for our sins on Good Friday tomorrow.

Hope to see some of you Monday night, Lord Willin'.

Doug,
A lot of us would actually prefer to reschedule rather than play on the grass. I would suggest having both managers agree on a grass game before scheduling it as such.

Noted, but I respectfully disagree.

We have a wet pattern that has developed this spring and we need to take advantage of any opportunity to get the season started. Managers come under a lot of pressure when games need to be made up. Add additional makeup games and it only increases the pressure.

The league presents to the players a 12 game season. It is therefor incumbent upon us to provide a 12 game season, not one shortened by rain outs.

I understand that playing on the grass is less than desirable, but in my mind, I would much rather play on the grass than not play at all. If others would rather sit out, that is fine, but the league would view any teams refusal to play on the grass as a forfeit.

All players should have baseball shoes and not sneakers. This is especially important for added traction when playing in the outfield and running the bases when conditions dictate a grass infield.
