May 20th Update

I am pleased to announce the leagues statistician for the remainder of the 2012 season is Jim Kowalczyk from Crosspoint Team 1.  Jim is a league vet having been in it since Crosspoint church entered the league several years ago.  Some of you will recognize his picture on the just updated league contact page.

You will also notice a change.  Matt Murphy has retired from Mt. Hope and will be a sub only as his daughters softball schedule will permit.  Stepping into Matt's role is Cody Ozyuk and into the #2 spot, Dwayne Dethlefson.  Cody did a fine job coaching Mt. Hope last years during Matt's absence from his surgery and recovery.

The GRACE period for emailing scores is over.  Compliance so far has been exemplary!  Thanks!  Jim K. is aware of the Midnight Wed. deadline for getting scores emailed into scores@churchsoftball.org  If you have any issues emailing to that, his personal email is "Jim Kowalczyk" <czyk@mchsi.com>  Jim's cell number is on the contact page.

I have also brought Jim up to speed on ANY score reported with more than a 13 run delta or with more than 20 runs.  Such scores are subject to downward adjustment.

Weather looks interesting for the next 12-18 hours.  In the event a heavy rain ruins one or more infields, be prepared to play in the grass.  I will not call any games unless it is raining at game time.  So keep your throw down bases handy.  Also be prepared to call your opposing Manager if you intend to opt out of playing in the grass.

After tomorrow, we pause for the Memorial Day holiday.  Any team that KNOWS they can and want to makeup a game next Monday, I believe all fields are available.  Reach out to your opponent and check.  No matter what you do next weekend, remember the fallen and put family first too!

I will be on a cruise ship next Sunday and will be back in town for the June 11th games, Lord Willin'.  Dave Miller is in charge in my absence.

Twilight Time Almost Here!

During my 2 week vaca, twilight time starts Monday night June 4th and continues for the duration of the season.  For rookies, twilight time is a 7:30 game on an unlit field.

Twilight games are highly successful and have greatly aided the expansion of the league.  BUT, in order for that success to continue, 6:30 game managers need to continue the great job in speeding games along.

SO, remember and enforce;
Lower slaughter (13 run lead at end of 4,5,6).
Firecracker rule, (20 or more runs at end of 4,5,6).
Mandatory 2 and 2 at top of 5th.
Twilight games called on account of darkness are suspended and to be continued later.
A losing team may concede instead of suspend the game, but we encourage you not too.
Coaches, I need your bio.  If you have not emailed me a brief 4-8 sentence bio, I need it asap.  What to put in it?  Name, rank, how long in league.  What you like most about, maybe a some personal info on family if you choose.

Have a great time tomorrow, Lord Willin'
