Wow, what a night!
The day started bright and beautiful with no clouds. Then some clouds and then at 3:00, some isolated thunderstorms started popping up in Wisconsin and moving south - south east. Well, one blew up over Fox Lake and I heard from CrossPoint 2 Coach Matt Vasey that a hail storm had left enough hail that he could make a snowball!
Meanwhile, my wife called from Hobby Lobby at 3:30 that a downpour was ongoing. I arrived at the fields at 4:15 to assess them and they were all a mess. I decided though that after walking field 2, the ground without puddles was still firm. I made a command decision to give it 2 hours and also to come back asap to begin trying to make field 2 playable.
With a lot of help from Matt, Cody Ozyuk and others, we got the field ready. Praise the Lord for the great spirit of fellowship and caring that made that possible.
Now for the results.
The Gold game was very close with Chapel 2 and CrossPoint 2 staying close through 8 innings. That's right, we went to 8. In the bottom of the 8th, Chapel 2 was down 7-6. Some walks and well placed hits saw them tie the game. With the winning run at 2nd, Chris Dador (Asst. Coach) launch a long shot to center that got past the CrossPoint 2 fielder. The winning run scored. Chapel 2 wins 8 -7.
The FIRST Platinum Game had reached blowout numbers when CrossPoint 1 led 14 - 3 by mid-game. St. Pat's tenacity kicked in and they rallied and got close and then an inning or so later, got closer. In the top of the 7th, they tied the game. St. Pat's wins 18-17 in 8 innings, forcing a game 2.
Game 2 was close and went back and forth. Some incredible plays and great hitting on both sides. Again it went till the 8th and St. Pat's wins 10-7!
It was a great night and there were a nice crowd to take in the games.
