Wow, it's Monday and I am not tracking radar for softball, I am tracking radar for Isaac and the folks along the Gulf Coast. It's DevaVu time.
I witnessed Katrina personally, albeit from a very safe distance. My parents were moving from Memphis to Leesburg Florida in central Florida to their new retirement home. I flew down to help drive vehicles. As we drove east along the top of Mississippi, it was sobering to see all the emergency vehicles head to staging areas. Once in Florida, I actually saw the outer bands of Katrina. Will never forget that.
Pray for the Gulf Coast and the West Coast. California is experiencing earth quake swarms, which can be a harbinger of a larger quake.
Meanwhile back to the topic of softball. Season 34 has ended and what a great season it was. In spite of 3 rain outs earlier in the season, most all teams got their 12 games played.
Gonna have the blues not playing ball tonight?
Good Guys was a smash hit and raised over $3300 for the food pantry. The all-star night was also a great time as well.
What changes can we expect next season should we be allowed to play, Lord Willin'. (BTW, no threat here of not playing due to fields, or anything like that. Just a reference to the times in general.)
1.) Zion Lutheran Church will be joining us. Zion Lutheran is on Rt 120 in McHenry next to Tommy's Red Hots (the old Wendy's). They had been part of an old Lutheran league that ran its course and disintegrated this year.
2.) A very - very special 35th Anniversary Opening Night Ceremony.
3.) A new Silver Division, designed to be an incubator for struggling teams OR a place for teams that do not care about won loss records and just want to come and play ball. No tournament will be held for this Division. Entrance will be optional. Fee's the same and rules relaxed.
4.) Revised HR Derby. A hard limit to the number of contestants. Derby may be moved to be AFTER the all-star game. Picnic, All-Star Game and HR Derby will again fall on a Monday night.
Thanks and have a great Fall/Winter.
Got suggestions for next year while the season is still fresh on your mind, drop us a line.
Go Bears!
