Rain – rain – go away.
It’s that time of year again! Softball time and weather watching time. No one is more frustrated over rain outs than I am. Y’all work hard to coach and your guys n’ gals want to play, so when your field becomes unplayable, it’s a letdown for players, coaches and fans alike. But, take heart, I posted some interesting stats on the league BLOG in regards to games played vs games never made up going back to 2006 and I am confident that we’ll play ball again – LOL!
Coaches have been emailed contact lists for scheduling make-up games.
On a side note, Al Thennes and Andy Keenan of Faith Pres. and Matt Vasey of Crosspoint 2 were so eager to play last Monday, WE DID PLAY! We found a field at Fox Ridge Park on Dartmoor in McHenry that was not being used and was playable. It is a 5 field complete. 3 kiddy size and 2 adult size. We got our game in and it was weird knowing we were the ONLY game from the league that played that night. I had checked Shamrock at 5:30ish one more time to see if maybe it had become playable, it had not.
For what it is worth, the grass was playable at Shamrock and BEHIND field 5 at Fox Ridge is several acres of level field that was also playable. The grass at the Township was too soaked to play on it.
This past Sunday, my daughter and I stopped by the Township in the afternoon and all 4 fields were in use for a tournament. They had volunteers spend several hours working on 3 and 4 especially.
Depending on what shakes out, I will spend several hours Saturday or Sunday with an electric pump and garden hoses in order to give 3 and 4 a chance to be ready Monday. 1 and 2 were ready last evening and were actually used last night.
Any volunteers with pumps and hoses care to join me?
